Let Your Movers Do These Things

Posted on

Customers often prefer moving companies that offer flexible services. It is nice to be able to specify what your movers should do and what you will do on your own. For example, you might want to pack your own clothing and unpack your own boxes once they're in your new home. There are certain tasks, however, that you should leave for your moving company.

1. Taking apart and moving large furniture

If you have a 10-foot dining room table, a large sectional with legs, or another piece of large furniture that is best disassembled before it is moved, leave the disassembly to your moving company. Movers take apart a lot of furniture, so they tend to know how to do it without risking damage. Also, they'll know how much they need to take apart to carry the item outside and load it in the moving truck. It may not be necessary, for instance, to remove all of the table's legs or to take the back off the sofa.

2. Providing moving supplies

You might be tempted to start collecting boxes and other moving supplies in an attempt to save money—don't. If you are hiring a moving company, just buy whatever supplies they bring along and provide. Movers often prefer to use certain sizes of boxes, and they also choose boxes that they know will stand up to stacking. Boxes that you get for free may not be the right sizes for your movers, nor will they be guaranteed to carry and stack effectively.

3. Packing fragile items

People tend to want to wrap and pack their own china, glasses, and other fragile items. But here's the thing: your movers have done this many, many more times than you probably have. They know exactly how to best wrap these pieces to prevent damage. Take a deep breath, and trust the movers to pack anything breakable.

4. Planning the route

Some people like to give the movers directions or ask that the movers follow them. Some moving companies will oblige these requests, while others won't. But even if your moving company is willing to drive whatever way you would like, you should let them plan the route. They need to go a certain route that will accommodate large trucks, which may not be the fastest or most direct route.

If you let your movers handle the moving tasks above, you should have better results at the end of the day. Contact companies like Lobo Moving to learn more.
